Intimacy with God

Updated: May 28

Here's what I think God is helping us figure out about intimacy right now. First off, it's important to see how God often uses symbols—things we get—to share deeper truths. He talks to us in layers, revealing more as we keep seeking Him.

I've personally struggled with the idea of being close to God for years. It's been tough for me to really get what it means to have that kind of tight relationship with Him. Even though I know a real connection with God is all about intimacy, I've had a hard time accepting it.

But at this moment, I feel like the Holy Spirit is finally helping me understand it.

We usually think of intimacy as a deep bond—a time of learning, listening, accepting, and really getting to know someone, whether it's a person or God. That's a good starting point, but I think God is showing me something deeper.

True intimacy with God is about fully accepting His Spirit living inside us, without putting up walls. The Holy Spirit guides us into truth, gives us insights, and shows us God's heart. Our job is to trust Him—without second-guessing or letting doubt make us ignore what He shows us.

The issue is, when what we hear or feel from God doesn't match our past experiences or what we understand, we often push it aside. We let it go because it doesn't make sense to us.

But being close to God means letting things that don't make sense to our natural mind still be true—and learning to live from that place all the time. It's about breathing it in, living in it, and being completely wrapped up in Him.

Like the Bible says, “In Him we live and move and have our being.” True intimacy is living fully submerged in His truth—even when it looks different from anything we've known before.

I believe a real picture of intimacy with God is, being able to live like He's living life through you...
