The first and second Adam: A picture of identity and Authority

Today, I found myself reflecting on the powerful parallel between the first Adam and the second Adam—Jesus Christ—and how this comparison reveals God’s plan for identity, authority, and the Church.

In the beginning, Adam was given divine instruction. From that foundation, Eve was formed—taken from Adam’s very body. This can be seen as a foreshadowing of the Church, birthed from within a divine relationship. However, when Eve was deceived by the enemy and Adam partook in the mistake, sin entered, and with it, death.

Now, consider Jesus—the second Adam—sent by God with a redemptive plan. Jesus fulfilled His mission perfectly, undoing the curse of sin and death. From His finished work, the Church was born—His body, united with Him in purpose and authority.

This comparison reveals something deeper about our identity in Christ. Just as Eve came from Adam, the Church comes from Christ. Our origin is rooted in divine identity. Jesus didn’t just save us from sin; He re-established what Adam and Eve were originally meant to carry—a position of spiritual dominion and communion with God.

Through Christ, we regain what was lost: rightful authority, restored relationship, and a renewed identity. The Church isn’t just a gathering of believers; it is the powerful, anointed Body of Christ, formed from Him, filled with His Spirit, and walking in His authority.

This understanding reminds us that our identity in Christ is not only real and accurate—it’s trustworthy. God’s design was intentional from the beginning. Just as Eve came from Adam, so we, the Church, come from Christ. That makes us strong, purposeful, and equipped with Heaven’s authority to live out the divine plan.
